If we look at the core of beliefs, we can say that beliefs make people do strange things. Some can help you change your life. Others can’t. But all of them are impacting your change.
Let’s take Santa Claus for example. Every parent is lying to their children about some fictional character and makes the children believe it exists. We may call this a positive belief as it encourages the child to believe there’s something good and magical out there.
On the other hand, let’s look at the cultures where you show love through sacrifice. There are some extreme cultures where people are willing to die (and they do so) just so they show how much they believe in something. We may call this a negative belief as it encourages death and the end of the human species.
What we believe is directly impacting the way we live our lives.
If I believe people should be punished if they make bad jokes, then I’m going to punish everyone who makes bad jokes.
If I believe people who make bad jokes are really confident, then I’m going to reward everyone who makes bad jokes.
More than that, the bad jokes others make have a specific definition that only I may have on what I call bad jokes. What I consider as being a bad joke, others may consider it as being a really good joke.
Therefore, our perceptions affect our beliefs. But it happens the other way around too.
If I believe that people who make bad jokes should be punished, then my perception is that people who make bad jokes are overall bad people which is not true at all. You can’t know someone by only one of their actions.
The easiest way to change your life and beliefs
There’s a quote that goes like this: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
This quote is so powerful and true.
One of the ways we get new beliefs and remove the unwanted ones is by consuming information. The more information you consume, the stronger your beliefs are going to be.
Now imagine you spend most of your time in a group of 5 to 10 entrepreneurs. You get to listen to what they speak and how they speak. You get to see the problems they’re facing and understand their reality.
The more you spend time in that social circle, the more you’ll believe what they believe. And this is the easiest way to change your life and beliefs.
But most of us can’t do that. Most of us don’t have the luxury of being part of such a group. In most cases, we don’t even know where to find it.
